YC Batch Consists Entirely of Companies That Add a Chat Interface to an Existing API
The 47 companies in the W2026 batch share a combined valuation of $470 million and a combined total of three proprietary technologies.

SAN FRANCISCO — Y Combinator has announced the companies in its W2026 batch, which includes 47 startups, 43 of which provide a conversational interface to an API that already exists and is freely available to anyone.
“This is the strongest batch we’ve ever had,” said a YC partner who asked not to be named because they are also an investor in several of the companies.
Among the batch companies are: an AI tool that lets lawyers ask questions to legal documents (the documents are sent to GPT-4), an AI tool that lets doctors ask questions to medical records (the records are sent to Claude), and an AI tool that lets anyone ask questions to PDFs (the PDFs are sent to Gemini).
The remaining four companies are building in the “agentic space,” which the founders defined as “like a chatbot but it also clicks buttons.”
Combined, the batch companies have raised $94 million in pre-seed funding at an average pre-money valuation of $10 million, suggesting investors believe each of these products is worth approximately the same as a nice house in Palo Alto.
When asked what differentiated these products from simply using the underlying APIs directly, several founders used the word “UX” and the phrase “enterprise-grade.”
“The moat is the distribution,” said one founder, who did not elaborate.
At press time, three of the companies had pivoted.
