Local CTO Explains Why Company Didn't Need AI Six Months Before Announcing AI Strategy

The executive, who gave a conference talk in October titled 'Why We're Not Chasing the AI Hype,' has been named Chief AI Officer.

AUSTIN — Daniel Marsh, who was appointed Chief Technology Officer of mid-market SaaS company Formify in 2021, has been promoted to the newly created role of Chief AI Officer, the company announced Monday.

In October, Marsh gave a keynote address at SaaS Summit titled “Staying Grounded: Why Formify Isn’t Chasing the AI Hype,” in which he argued that “real value comes from execution, not from bolting a chatbot onto your product.”

The company’s AI strategy, which Marsh described Monday as “transformational,” involves bolting a chatbot onto the product.

“The landscape has changed dramatically,” said Marsh, who has not returned requests for comment about the October talk. “We’ve been doing a lot of listening.”

Formify’s new AI feature, called FormifyAI, allows users to ask their form builder questions about their forms.

“The feedback has been incredible,” said Marsh. “People love it.”

When asked if anyone had requested the feature, Marsh said the question was “a bit reductive.”

At press time, Formify had updated its website to include the word “AI” fourteen times.
