Microsoft Adds Copilot to Product Nobody Was Using, Product Still Not Used
The company says the AI integration 'transforms' its Sway presentation tool, which surveys suggest most Office 365 subscribers do not know exists.

REDMOND — Microsoft has announced the integration of its Copilot AI assistant into Sway, the company’s cloud-based presentation and storytelling tool, which the company described as “a significant update to a beloved product.”
Sway has approximately 1.2 million monthly active users among the 345 million people subscribed to Microsoft 365, giving it a market penetration rate that a company spokesperson described as “not something we’re commenting on.”
“Copilot transforms what’s possible in Sway,” said the product announcement blog post, which was also written by Copilot.
The update, which rolls out automatically to all Microsoft 365 subscribers, adds a button labeled “Draft with Copilot” to the Sway interface, which users can now not click in addition to all the other things they were already not clicking.
“We’re meeting users where they are,” said a Microsoft product manager, who declined to specify where that was.
In a user survey conducted prior to the announcement, 73 percent of respondents said they did not know what Sway was. Of the 27 percent who did know, 18 percent described it as “the one that’s not PowerPoint.”
At press time, Microsoft had added Copilot to Clipchamp.
